Explore the innovative use of colour and find out which Paint & Paper Library hues feature behind the grand exterior architecture…

Launched in 1992, Richard James is a British luxury menswear brand worn by celebrities including Sir Elton John, Robert DeNiro and Benedict Cumberbatch. After making their mark on Savile Row with their trademark modern fashion style, the brand is now a recognised member of the prestigious tailoring district. The newly opened ‘Richard James House’ is located on Clifford Street opposite their existing store.

A 2,500 ft2 store and workspace which spans three storeys, the interiors of ‘Richard James House’ have been overseen by internationally celebrated designer, David Thomas. Working with the brand’s Creative Director, Toby Lamb, he drew inspiration from the brand’s signature use of colour by embracing strong, rich and contrasting shades in every space.

David writes: “For the renovation of ‘Richard James House’, I very much wanted to celebrate the best of Britain using only UK suppliers for all decorative finishes –much like the art of the tailor-made suit which is so particular to Savile Row. I’ve always loved the Paint & Paper Library palette, so I was delighted to use their paints exclusively for this very bespoke project.”

Shades like Caravan and Blue Pearl create an intimate, immersive atmosphere, while brightly coloured, statement artwork and furnishings lend an additional element of vibrancy and extravagance. David Thomas also explored the Paint & Paper Library archive for this project, choosing richly coloured hue, Georgetown, to complete the scheme.
