When designing a kitchen scheme, it is important to consider the mood and atmosphere you want to achieve.

In many homes, the kitchen plays host to bright white walls, metallic finishes and hard, reflective surfaces, which can produce quite a stark living environment. But by introducing warmer tones, it is possible to achieve a soft, elegant and inviting kitchen setting that welcomes you inside.

Find inspiration from this warm, timeless kitchen scheme created by Hannah at @half_a_hall, featuring three of the most comforting shades in the Paint & Paper Library palette…

Tell us about this project. What did you want to achieve?

“Our kitchen was previously a deep inky black. Although I loved it, the idea of a fresh, brighter and a jolly palette was quite tempting, so I set about finding the perfect palette. There’s nothing quicker and more refreshing than a kiss of paint in the kitchen!

My French Fancy kitchen palette entails;

Caddie in Architects’ Eggshell – on the kitchen cabinets.
Scarlet ‘n’ Rust in Architects’ Eggshell – on the shelves and window frame.
Powder IV in Architects’ Matt – on the walls and architraves.
Slate I in Architects’ Matt – on the ceiling.”

Caddie, Scarlet ‘n’ Rust and Powder IV is such an inviting colour combination. How did you select this palette?

“When I first saw Scarlet ‘n’ Rust, I was intrigued by its depth and autumnal tone. I could see it pairing beautifully with a pink, but the right pink. The pink decision took me a while – not too baby, not too sickly. So, Powder IV came out on top.

The combination of all three colours – including the wooden antiques I have around the kitchen in our island, beams and storage – really complements what I’m now calling The French Fancy kitchen, as it resonates so well with the colours of Mr Kipling’s aptly named little treats!”

We’re seeing warmer tones such as pink used more and more in kitchen designs. What does Powder IV bring to your scheme?

“It’s pretty much the perfect pink isn’t it!? And it combines so well with a variety of shades. Pink is one of my favourite colours too, so it felt good to put it into one of our most used spaces in the home.”

Powder IV is a delicate shade whose pink undertones instil gentle warmth into any interior setting. This alluring neutral accompanies four other, graduating hues in the Powder Architectural family, each based on the same soft pink pigment.

We love your eclectic yet warm and homely style. Could you share some of your best interior design advice?

“I really champion second-hand styling. Sourcing products and items that have their own interest and stories to tell is definitely worth considering when styling your spaces. Colours are also super important, and it’s also a task a lot of people find very daunting, just picking the right palette so you have some cohesion. For those who do find it a little overwhelming, I offer my design services as well as assisting on sourcing great pieces.”
